Phyllis' trial kicks off this week and she finds she can't "stand" it.
"So, Phyllis told a guy who had an affair that she'd tell people about it if he didn't vote her way. She was thinking, 'Big deal! This guy's a slob who was screwing around on his wife and not a good person,' " shrugs Michelle Stafford. "Now that she's going down she realizes she should have kept her mouth shut."
In the courtroom, it's a case of too little, too late. "She has high expectations. She's trying to be positive," Stafford says of Phyllis. "Unfortunately, Nick isn't giving her a great deal of support because he's sniffing around Sharon. But Michael and her son are there for her."
Michael and newcomer Heather go head-to-head with opening statements and then the parade of witnesses begins, starting with Phyllis' favorite person: Sharon. "Everyone comes in and tries to take Phyllis down," Stafford cringes. "She thinks Neil, at least, is going to be on her side; he's a witness for the defense. Then he says he hopes she rots in jail."
Michael objects, but the damage is done and the jury connects Dru's death to Phyllis' blackmail attempts. With things looking grim, Michael doesn't hold back when Nikki takes the stand. "He rips her to shreds, saying she's a stripper and got her job because she was married to the boss," Stafford laughs. "Nikki acts respectable up there, but she's humiliated, and Phyllis is very happy about that."
But not for long. "Nikki gets her revenge, thanks to David," teases Stafford. Then it's Phyllis who finds herself in the hot seat.
