September 4, 2007 CBS Soaps In Depth Growing Pains Growing up in front of the camera has a dark side--as witnessed by the many child stars who end up as fodder for the tabloids. Yet Bryton (Devon), whose childhood friends include his then-peers on HOME IMPROVEMENT, FULL HOUSE, STEP BY STEP, and, of course, his own former TV home, FAMILY MATTERS, defends Hollywood's youth. "A lot of them made it well off and are find and stable now, and a lot of them were unfortunate to head in the wrong direction. But the news loves to talk about only the negative aspects of what comes out of being a child actor," says the recent Emmy winner. "I think how your life turns out when you [begin acting] at such a young age is completely the result of who you have around you--your family. Completely. One hundred percent." In fact, Bryton says that he knows just as many kids who were never in the entertainment industry who have run amok. "You can be a normal guy growing up in a normal neighborhood, play baseball and go to school, do that whole thing, and if you don't have the right family behind you, if you don't have the right foundation, you're still going to have a hard time."
