In 1995, Phyllis tried to mow down Christine and Paul on their wedding day, after she spied Chris in a liplock with Phyllis' then-husband Danny. Paul attempted to knock his bride-to-be out of the way but they both became hood ornaments (and didn't get married for a year). To this day, that hit-and-run has never come to light.
"Do the fans who remember that even care anymore?" shrugs Michelle Stafford. "It's been so long, it's not interesting to revisit. Two of the main characters, Danny and Cricket, are not even on the show anymore. If they were, it could be interesting, because the story would have to address the relationship between Phyllis and Christine. The conflict was about Christine and Danny. It's lost its juice. Also, Phyllis is so different from that Phyllis. Her essence is the same, but people grow and change."
Tell that to her orange jumpsuit.
