When Tammy Lauren landed the role as Y&R detective Maggie Sullivan in October 2006, she wasn't sure what to expect. "I was a child actor, so I was never at home during the day to watch soaps," she explains. "I'd never actually seen one before."
Still, Lauren trusted Head Writer/Executive Producer Lynn Marie Latham, the two having worked together on HOMEFRONT (where Lauren played Ginger from 1991-93). "When Lynn called me, she said, 'I'm doing Y&R right now and I need you to come and play a cop,' " the actress recalls. "I was like, 'Okay,' because I didn't want to piss her off. I wanted her to keep hiring me [laughs]. I was only supposed to do five episodes. Then Lynn put Maggie with Paul."
Which gave the actress some pause. "Doug's [Davidson, Paul] last love interest was Eva Longoria [ex-Isabella]," she chuckles. "Talk about intimidating! When I first met him, I said, 'I know what you're thinking; how did I get saddled with this chick?' The first time we did a love scene, it was pretty traumatic."
It was quite the opposite when Lauren met her real-life spouse, actor Guri Weinberg (who starred in Munich), through her late mother, Suzanne Bledsoe, a talent manager. "I thought he was gorgeous and asked him out," she shares. "I'd never done that before, but he was beautiful. We've now been married for 11 years."
Lauren was just 10 when she began acting. She was spied by an agent after enrolling in a local theater class and soon began landing roles on such series as FANTASY ISLAND and MORK AND MINDY. "By the time I was a teenager, I couldn't imagine myself doing anything else," Lauren notes. "I was like, 'Well, I like acting and they pay me for it, so I might as well keep doing it.' "
Lauren credits HOMEFRONT for being the series that "helped me make the transition from child to adult actress." And though she has some pressing concerns about daytime ("Why do they always have sex on couches?"), she's enjoying her first foray into soaps. "They're harder than I thought," she admits, "but it's been great so far. I just wish they'd give Maggie a badge [laughs]."
