Where Are They Now?
Eric Steinberg (ex-Ji Min, Y&R)
For nearly a year after Eric Steinberg was let go from Y&R, the mystery of who killed his character, Ji Min, loomed over Genoa City (it was finally revealed to have been David). Still, many fans were disappointed that Steinberg, who'd quickly become a fan favorite, was axed.
"I was kind of perplexed by leaving and how rapidly it happened, and how it all went down without me knowing," he sighs. "I would've liked for the character to have been developed, but I understand that this is the nature of soaps."
He shares that he still gets approached by fans. "When my mother was in the hospital for heart surgery, some of the nurses in the intensive care unit were Y&R fans and recognized me," he shares. "You're not allowed to stay with people in intensive care all night and you're not allowed to bring in stuff. But these nurses prayed for my mother in the chapel. They let me stay overnight with her. There was so much kindness, and they treated her so well. It was amazing and my mom is doing great."
Meantime, Steinberg, who boasted a long list of credits even before he joined Y&R, is continuing to act. "I did a pilot that was produced by Shaun Cassidy, but nobody bought it," he shares. "I also did a Korean horror film and am still doing prime-time guest spots."
Would he do another soap? "I'd want to discuss the role first and make sure that certain Asian stereotypes are aovided," he notes. "But I'd do another because I enjoyed my time at Y&R. It was my first soap and I had a good time. I still have great thoughts and feelings for everyone there because they were great to me.
