Mr. Kitty Lives!
Who knew a stuffed cat could warrant so much hoopla? Despite being "killed off" Y&R by Zapato, Patty's beloved Mr. Kitty continues to thrive, courtesy of "behind-the-scenes" videos at www.cbs.com/daytime
"Oh, my gosh! It's a genius idea," raves Elizabeth Hendrickson (Chloe), who loves--and co-stars in--the True Soap Story segments shot, directed and edited by Y&R's web content developer, Greg Edwards. "When Greg first told me about it, I knew it was going to be great. The fact that he thought to take this stuffed cat and make it into a character is hilarious."
Edwards came up with the concept to keep Mr. Kitty alive via Internet videos to appease the legions of fans who had grown to love Patty's petrified sidekick. His next step was to discuss his idea with the Y&R cast and get them on board with the project. "Greg explained that the videos were going to be like those shows you see on VH1 and MTV about the [downfall] of a star," explains Hendrickson. "All I knew is it was a kitty with a drug problem. Then Greg asked us questions and we improvised."
Hendrickson's "interviews" were done beside leading man Billy Miller (Billy). "Normally, I'm great at improv, but I was exhausted that day," concedes Hendrickson. "Billy and I had just finished shooting. Fortunately, he kept coming up with great stuff. "I was just trying to sit there and not laugh--not ruin our takes."
Hendrickson did come up with a couple of good quips, like mentioning Mr. Kitty had hit on her. "Yeah, I made that up," says Hendrickson. "I also mentioned running lines with him and how he was inappropriate with me. I should have thrown HR in there. There are a lot of jokes that can be had with that. I should have said something about fleas, too. Maybe that I hooked up with him and he gave me fleas," she adds with a chuckle. "That would be funny."
