When the folks in charge of "The Young and the Restless" decided that Raya Meddine was the perfect Sabrina, they incorporated actual information from the actress's life into her character: Both women have fathers who were diplomats, both were raised in Europe, and both speak several languages and are well traveled.
The last is something that Meddine believes has stood her in good stead: "Life is constant change," she says. "You need to be ready to pick up, move on, be strong, adapt and go on to the next phase without resisting."
This ability to stay flexible has helped in her professional life. As a result, she has been able to do TV, film and theater, and in 2006, Meddine hosted the first season of the Middle Eastern reality TV show "Mission Fashion" with designer Elie Saab.
"I love fashion in that I perceive it as art and as psychology," she explains. "It is art because what the designers create is beautiful. It is visually aesthetic and appealing. But I also think it is psychology because what you wear expresses what you are feeling inside."
Now the adaptable native New Yorker is doing daytime and is appreciative of the opportunity to work with one of the genre's veteran actors, Eric Braeden (Victor Newman).
"He is very passionate as an actor and very talented," she says. "And as people, we get along. I think he is just wonderful. I love hanging out with him. We talk about literature and politics. We talk French. I am very happy to be working with him."
