Kate Linder's High Tea 2008
On July 12, 2008, Kate Linder (Esther) hosted the 10th Annual The Young and the Restless Afternoon Tea at the Marriott Hotel in downtown Vancouver, Canada. She wasn't alone. Kate brought cast-mates Christian LeBlanc (Michael), Michael Graziadei (Daniel), Emily O'Brien (Jana) and newcomer Chris Engen (Adam) to the sold out event. Y&R associate producer Josh O'Connell, makeup artist Patti Denney and hairstylist George Guzman joined the merry group. For $60 a pop, fans spent the afternoon eating petits fours, finger sandwiches and sipping tea with their Genoa City favorites. Included in the special day is an auction, Q&A and a whole lotta fun!
Kate started this event after brainstorming with old friend and fundraiser Robin Wyss on a trip to Vancouver. Robin was shocked at the amount of attention Kate was getting from fans and Kate mentioned that The Young and the Restless had a huge following in Canada. Why not plan a charity event with the cast of Y&R? It was Kate's idea to make it a high tea since it made sense for her character and a fan event was born! Every year fans travel from all over to attend, some year after year, and Y&R cast members graciously fly up on their own dime to help raise money for a good cause.
More than 300 fans attended this year's high tea, which raised a whopping $20,000 for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. Highlights of the day included two lucky recipients winning a tour of the set, one contest winner won a make-over with Patti and George and a surprise appearance by local radio personality Joe Leary of Radio 1410's The Jenn and Joe Show, who is a Y&R fan himself! Christian rocked as the emcee. Michael charmed the ladies with his laid back style. Chris wowed the crowd by hugging and kissing his way across the ballroom and Emily added a touch of glamor to the festivities.
