Kate was part of an invitation-only audience that was invited to watch the taping of a live performance of "Forever Plaid" at Sunset's CBS studios. The taping was done in order that the popular play can be released in movie format.
Kate, found herself part of a crowd which was made up of huge Plaid fans, including, Loni Anderson (WKRP), Rose Marie, Army Archerd, and Melissa Manchester, as well as former members of the Plaid players such as Fred Willard.
"Forever Plaid" is a musical comedy revue about four young men trying to make it in the music business. The one complication is that they are dead! The sound track includes retro tunes from Justin Timberlake, Mariah Carey and Gwen Stefani. Main players in the production are Daniel Richard (Francis), Larry Raben (Sparky), Stan Chandler (Jinx), David Engel (Smudge), and the inimitable David Hyde-Pierce (of Fraser fame) as the MC. The show has run all over the world for over twenty years, with a total box-office take of $265 million and counting!
At the taping, Kate joked that it was funny she was sitting there as an extra for the first time in her career, only weeks after receiving her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame! She also made note of the fabulous company she was in that day.
The movie version of "Forever Plaid" is expected to be out later this year.
