Chloe's secret identity is exposed, but this week on Y&R, the aftermath continues to rock the Chancellor household. Worse, the revelation that the vixen is none other than Esther's MIA daughter, Kate, may only be the tip of the iceberg, with even more surprises coming. What could possibly be more stunning? And can Genoa City survive the earthquake called Chloe?
Kiss Me, Kate
Esther's world continues to spin dizzyingly after bringing champagne glasses to toast the newlyweds Cane and Chloe and coming face-to-face with her not-so-little girl. When she drops her tray and calls out Kate's name, the reaction of the crowd is almost as shocking as the revelation--no one believes her!
"Everyone is like, 'You're mistaken--this is Chloe.' But I'm like, 'I know my own daughter!' " Kate Linder (Esther) previews with a laugh. "This just blows Esther's mind. At first, she's so happy to see her daughter that she doesn't even put it together. And Chloe finally has to admit it."
The admission is the equivalent to dropping an atom bomb on the Chancellor estate. "The ramifications are huge," agrees headwriter Maria Arena Bell, "because you have the different perspectives of Cane, Jill and Katherine, who are questioning this girl's motives, trying to understand how this could have happened. It's hard to imagine that it was accidental... so there is going to be a huge fallout for Chloe."
Realizing this would mean she and Esther would share the same title--grandmother!--Jill urges her son to trot back down to City Hall for a divorce. Alas, Cane refuses to do anything that would jeopardize his connection to his unborn baby. Frustrated, Jill rails against Chloe, which brings out the mother bear in Esther. "When I come into the room, Jill is saying all these horrible things," Linder says in character. "I'm like, 'That's my daughter you're talking about!' "
Maid To Humiliate
While Esther rushes to defend her child, Chloe makes it clear that her mom isn't someone with whom she wants to get all cozy. "She is very embarrassed by her mother, that she's a maid," reveals Elizabeth Hendrickson, who plays the troublemaker. "I think there is love there, but there is so much resentment that she doesn't show her love. When she first encounters her mother, she blames her for everything, and she almost lost Cane again because of her mother. And Chloe's angry at how she was so easily discarded and shipped away. There are so many different anger issues here... and hurt."
That hurt doesn't go away when Esther tries to defend Chloe. "Her mother tries to stand up for her through this entire ordeal, but Chloe doesn't need her to do that, because she's never stood up for her before," says Hendrickson. "She basically says, 'I don't need you. I don't need you to speak up for me. I don't even need you to be my mother.' "
After Chloe and Cane leave their ill-fated wedding reception, Jill and Esther nearly come to blows. "This is going to be fun," laughs Bell. "And then you've got Katherine, who through the kindness of her heart, tried to give Kate a great start in life. This will be a very interesting story of Chloe/Kate, and her response to being sent away."
Something Wicked
Katherine certainly wants to understand Chloe better, and the following day orders Esther to get some answers. "Esther has watched little Kate through the years, knowing she wasn't behaving correctly, but she never addressed it," Linder explains. "Now she's going to have to."
Unfortunately, their meeting does not get off to a good start when Esther inadvertently humiliates the fashionista when she shows up at Crimson Lights wearing her uniform. "Kate is like, 'How can you come here like this?' She wants to die when she sees Esther in her uniform," says Linder. "Esther knows she's ashamed of her. She knew Kate only saw her in boarding school when her friends weren't around. When she tells her that, Kate's like, 'Oh, you knew?' But she says it with a smile on her face! She wants to hurt Esther."
Of course, it's not only Esther that she's hurting. Knowing how much pain Chloe is causing in her elder son's life, Jill concocts a plan to pay her off. However, Cane snaps at his mom to stay out of the situation. Meanwhile, Lily overhears Chloe call Esther Mother and rushes to talk to her ex-fiancé. "Circumstances keep drawing Lily back into this relationship with Cane and being confronted by Chloe," Bell shares. "That isn't ending anytime soon."
In fact, the star-crossed lovers end up in a passionate liplock while Chloe packs her bags for greener pastures--namely the Chancellor mansion--where she informs Katherine, Jill and Esther that she's moving in because Cane hasn't been the best hubby! Then her animosity once again bubbles to the surface when she gives Esther her bags... of laundry. "She treats me like the maid!" Linder says, in character. "It's terrible."
If Esther thinks that's terrible, she'd better hold on to her maid's hat. Promises Bell: As this unfolds, there are more shocking secrets that will be revealed!"
Aftershock!
