September 16, 2008 Soap Opera Digest
After a very long dry spell, it's good that Y&R's Daniel finally has something to do again, but we're not crazy about what he's doing. The character, once a promising romantic hero, was tarnished during the whole icky porn obsession storyline, and then gathered dust in the Newman mailroom. The decision to have his relationship with Amber go from booty call to real romance gives him more air time, but feels forced. Even kooky Jana and Kevin are way more organic (and she tried to kill him once!). Amber and Daniel's relationship never picked up enough genuine heat to make this split have real dramatic impact. And the addition of Colleen as a love interest seems to be totally out of left field. Daniel still has potential, but we're getting restless to see it explored.
