The 56th annual "Festival of Trees" which benefits abused and at-risk boys and girls served by Optimist Youth Homes & Family Services, is scheduled to be held Monday, December 1 (10 a.m.-3 p.m.) at the Burbank Marriott Hotel & Convention Center (2500 Hollywood Way, Burbank).
Television anchor Rick Chambers of KCBS-TV will emcee the fundraiser, which typically displays dozens of elaborately decorated Christmas trees. An accompanying fashion show, produced by Damon & Draper, will be hosted by Kate Linder, star of the popular daytime drama "he Young and the Restless."
Since its inception in 1952, the event has raised nearly $650,000 to support the Home's programs and services, mostly coming from Optimist Clubs from throughout the greater Los Angeles area. Based in Highland Park, Optimist Youth Homes & Family Services provides comprehensive mental health treatment, specialized education and support services to 550 abused and neglected youth and their families each week.
The 2008 "Festival of Trees" is co-chaired by Dee Gadbury and Cathy McCutcheon, both officers of the Santa Clarita Valley Optimist Club. Traditionally, 60 or more holiday trees are on display, sponsored and beautifully decorated by Optimist and Opti-Mrs. Clubs, businesses and individuals. Committee members include Gerrie Meara of Calabasas, Nancy Herman of Thousand Oaks, Betty Preston of Paso Robles, Pam Duben of Castaic, and Adelaide Moniz of Valencia.
Tickets for "Festival of Trees" are $60 each. For reservations and more information, please contact Gretchen Mucci at (323) 443-3022, or gmucci@oyhfs.org.
