January 5, 2009 CBS Soaps In Depth Laughter Is The Best Medicine No one has to tell Y&R's Jeanne Cooper (Katherine) how important laughter is, especially during difficult times. And this last year has been especially difficult for the 80-year-old Emmy winner because her daughter, Caren, discovered she had breast cancer. "She had a double-mastectomy and is going through chemo, but she's a steel magnolia. She was out of the hospital in a day-and-a-half, walking around the block in four days, back at work in seven," says the proud mother. "She gets a little down, but we're right there for her. If it takes an hour or two to get her laughing, then we're there. It's so important for her to laugh; laughter is the most healing thing in the world." Cooper says she's in awe of her daughter's strength, although as a parent she admits it's not easy to sit on the sidelines and watch. "She's doing fantastic, but it's one of the biggest challenges for you to watch your children go through something like this," she confesses. "It doesn't matter how old they are, they're still your baby."
