Y&R's Jeanne Cooper (Katherine) is in talks to honor the stars of GL before the final curtain falls on the long-running soap this fall. How? Soaps In Depth has the exclusive scoop!
"It just breaks my heart," Cooper says of CBS' decision to pull the plug on GL. "I was sitting around thinking of what to do, and then thought I would like to go to New York and just be background in a scene on the soap. It would be my way to honor the show."
The Emmy winner says that she presented the idea to Barbara Bloom, senior vice-president of CBS Daytime and, aware of the increasingly-tight budgets in the television industry, even offered to pay her own way. "Jess Walton (Jill) says she's interested in doing it, too, and maybe I'll be able to round up a few others from Y&R."
It seems that even GL executive producer Ellen Wheeler is on board! "Ellen is going to try to get a scene worked out," Cooper notes. "It's so sweet of her to try to find something for a few of us who want to do this. We don't have to say Katherine's name. Even if we're just background players... I'd like to do it to pay homage to the cast and crew and to the cornerstone of daytime television, which is GL."
"This would be my way to honor all those who worked so hard to keep the soap on the air," she concludes with a sad smile. "It's a shame that it will go off the air."
