July 20, 2009 CBS Soaps In DepthCrazy Talk Y&R is starting to feel like the beginning of a bad joke: How many psychos does it take to torture the residents of an entire town? Between Adam's antics and Mary Jane's cartoonish "My Enemies" scrapbook--not to mention her having a stuffed cat for a confidant and pitching dead birds through windows--it's a tad much. Throw in the latest Amber/Daniel/Jana/Kevin mess, and that makes for a whole lotta plot-driven storylines on a show that has always excelled at character-based drama. We almost bust a gut laughing--at, not with--Mary Jane when she told Jack "Don't worry, I won't boil your bunny." Worse, he and Phyllis later had a chat about the scars (we never saw) she'd supposedly repeatedly asked him about (not that we ever heard) during their marriage, prompting him to reflect on the unnamed (but wildly obvious to longtime viewers) scorned woman he'd hurt so badly. Individually, we might not mind the Adam/Mary Jane plots. But unspooling both at the same time... that's just crazy!
