One of the original members of NBC's long-running soap opera "Days of Our Lives," actress Frances Reid, died Wednesday at the age of 9.
As Alice Horton, a beloved character on the show and matriarch of its core family, Reid was a mainstay on the program for more than 40 years.
In recent years, due to declining health, Reid had appeared on the soap less frequently, but was referred to often.
In a statement, Ken Corday, executive producer of the soap, said, "This is a very sad day, indeed; not only for me personally, but for the 'Days of our Lives' family and the entire Hollywood community. From day one until she taped her last scene, Frances epitomized the past, present and future of the show. Frances was truly one of a kind. Her class cannot be matched and her shoes cannot be filled… we will miss her all the rest of our days.”
