Will January Event Be the Last Hurrah for SAG Awards?
This could be the last year for the Annual Screen Actors Guild show, which will be held on Jan. 20. Hollywood may have a single actors' union by the end of 2011 that would replace both SAG and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists.
That would mean "a newly conceived awards show for the combined actors' union. But next month's SAG Awards show could easily be called the AFTRA Awards because an increasing number of categories are dominated by AFTRA shows.
For instance, AFTRA now has top TV contenders such as "Modern Family," "The Good Wife," "Parks & Recreation" and "Community." AFTRA shows, are increasingly dominating among comedy series, with three out of the five nominees for best comedy actress coming from AFTRA programs.
