Speech Impediment
Considering most Americans drool whenever they hear a British or Australian accent, it's hard to believe that Daniel Goddard (Cane) was asked to drop his Down Under drawl in order to land roles in Hollywood. Yet when he was cast on Y&R, he had to re-learn his native accent--not as easy as one might imagine. "The funny thing is so many words are now ingrained in my vocabulary as American words and the experiences are American experiences," he says. Despite doing what was required of him, Goddard says his Aussie speech can sometimes vex the crew. "More often than not, I get [Y&R supervising producer] Ed Scott saying, 'Can the Australian please communicate?' " laughs the hunk. "When Australians speak, every word rolls together. Americans are very definite--'Hello, how are you?' Whereas in Australia, you're like, 'Goodday, how'dyado?' And people are like, 'What?!'
