June 12, 2007 Soap Opera Digest (p. 59): Thumbs Down: The Mourning After Though we were sad to see Dru disappear (she fell off a cliff while arguing with Phyllis and Sharon), her presumed death provided husband Neil with riveting scenes. His Emmy-nominated portrayer, Kristoff St. John, turned in some of his best performances as Neil struggled to come to terms with his grief and stay away from the booze. Unfortunately, as the memories of Dru have begun to fade, so has Neil's screen time. After blaming Sharon for the accident, they quickly made amends. Getting rid of Dru's things also seemed to be cathartic enough for him to end his growing alcohol problem. These days, we've only been offered glimpses of him, mainly when he's supporting Lily and Devon or dealing with the goings-on at Newman. Getting over the loss of a loved one can take years, if not a lifetime, as Y&R has so aptly illustrated with Sharon and Jack's frequent mentions of the late Cassie and John. We'd like to see this storyline--and Neil--get the respect they deserve.
