Politics may have turned Y&R's Nikki Newman cold, but Melody Thomas Scott proved that a warm heart still beats within the candidate.
Having sold out her daughter for votes, Nikki's mouth dropped upon learning she really was ahead in the polls. But relief and pride were there, too, as Scott looked toward the heavens and threw out her arms in thanks.
Nikki's political acumen was on display as Scott mugged through a pitch-perfect acceptance speech that was actually a tirade against her unsupportive husband and Phyllis.
Strutting around Victor's office like she owned it, Nikki went from slamming rival Jack to flirting with campaign adviser David. Scott turned her voice sugary sweet as Nikki laughed off his apology for releasing that stripper footage back when he was on Jack's side--but Scott did not oversell the pair's easygoing chemistry.
When Jack launched his newest smear campaign, Scott huffed in exasperation, rolled her eyes and even threw in a head bob. David's idea for revenge revived Nikki's campaign buzz, but when Jack showed up to point fingers, the candidate kept her cool.
At last until the wreckage from Nick's crash was found. Scott's hand shot to her heart and her eyelids fluttered as Nikki literally collapsed onto Jack. Prostrate on the couch, she called Victor, covering her eyes in pain as she left him a quiet, desperate message. But the venom returned and she spat at the idea of calling Phyllis. Then Scott stripped the weariness from her voice and body to show Nikki's resilience by insisting that the campaign go on.
But when David found Nikki pretending to work later, there was despair in her shaky hands and tears were threatening to fall. Only his news of another front-page slip-up by Jack could lighten her mood. The grief lifted from Scott's shoulders as Nikki renewed celebrating, scheming--and kissed her new right-hand man.
Scott's performance earned our vote.
