July 24, 2007 CBS Soaps In Depth New And Improved Acting in daytime television isn't for the faint of heart. But according to Ted Shackelford (William), who played Ray Gorden on ANOTHER WORLD, it's a lot better than it used to be! "When I did it 30 years ago, we didn't do it live, but it was called 'live to tape,' because they didn't have the editing facilities that they do have now," he remembers. "The schedule was really crazy, where you'd be picked up at six in the morning in Manhattan and driven over to [the studio in] Brooklyn, and you'd be there from seven o'clock in the morning to six in the evening. What you'd do is block in the morning, then have a blocking rehearsal, then a run-through, then you'd have a dress rehearsal, and then you'd tape. You didn't stop for anything! If somebody messed up, you kept on going because there was no way to edit it." Today, production on soaps has improved, but don't let anyone fool you that daytime drama is easy, Shackelford warns
