Nick and Phyllis
"Phyllis is feeling like she and Nick are connecting again," says Michelle Stafford (Phyllis). "She was really hurt when he wasn't going to show up at her trial, but he did, so that meant a lot to her. Then he comes home with her and he sees that she's really stressed out. So he starts massaging her shoulders and it just feels so good to feel his touch again. Of course, she just can't let it go at that."
Phyllis asks Nick if they can go away somewhere to escape the stress of the trial. "It can't be far because of the trial, so even staying for a night at a hotel sounds good to her," says Stafford.
Phyllis is thrilled when Nick agrees, but before she can pack an overnight bag, he admits that he thinks she's guilty as charged! "That just crushes her," groans Stafford. "It's really upsetting that he has so little faith in her. They get into an argument over it, but it's not a shouting match because she's not mad. She's hurt and realizes that they're just not getting as close as she thought."
Phyllis puts an end to their conversation by telling him not to come to the hotel with her. But later, a pep talk from Lauren convinces Phyllis not to give up on Nick. "Lauren kind of brings her around," says Stafford.
Phyllis tracks down Nick and again invites him to join her at the hotel. "He says yes, which makes her happy again," smiles Stafford. Until... "Nick says he started wondering if she might skip out of town with Summer. It just blows her away that he thinks she would do such a thing."
And that puts the kibosh on a romantic reunion. His wife's defensiveness only fuels Nick's fears, so he secretly calls his lawyers to find out what his next move should be concerning Summer. But has he already put the wrong idea in Phyllis's head?
Cane and Amber
This week, Amber is determined to make amends with Cane. "She really wanted the Chancellor money, but true to Amber, she fell head over heels in love with Cane," explains Executive Producer/Head Writer Lynn Marie Latham. "Losing him means so much more than she ever thought it would."
Amber tries to make contact with Cane at his office, but she's coldly dismissed. "Everything she has said to him has been a lie," says Cane's portrayer, Daniel Goddard. "As far as he's concerned, they're done."
A determined Amber shows up at the Chancellor estate (luckily, the guard dogs, Kay and Jill, aren't home) and pleads for a few minutes with Cane. Against his better judgment, he lets her in.
Amber declares her love, then begs for forgiveness. Cane's reaction? He pulls her into a passionate kiss and they have sex on the sofa! But the afterglow is snuffed out when Cane orders Amber to leave right after. Confused, she asks what he means, and he explains that he was just using her. "He had to almost lower himself to a level that she would understand," explains Goddard. "He asks her, 'How does it feel to be played by someone you love?' Then he lies to her by saying, 'Now I've got this hot date at Indigo, so when I come back, I want you gone.' "
A devastated Amber bolts from the mansion and Cane heads to Indigo, where he licks his wounds alone--but not for long. "Lily and Colleen walk in," sets up Goddard. "They sit down with Cane, and the next thing you know, Amber turns up with Daniel."
That's right. A curious Amber drags Daniel to Indigo and now they're both shocked to see that Lily seems to be Cane's hot date! "Lily and Cane play it up and make it look like they're having a great time with each other," smiles Goddard. "Amber and Daniel are just livid."
But could Lily and Cane's little charade turn into something more serious?
Jack and Sharon
At Newman Enterprises, Nick drops the little bombshell about his aborted trip to Clear Springs with Sharon to her husband, Jack. "It's no accident," huffs Peter Bergman (Jack). "Jack has been trying to be a good Joe about this situation with Nick, but he's starting to be challenged by all of this."
Sharon Case, who plays Sharon, defends her character's motives for not mentioning the trip to her husband. "It was just a business trip, but the whole thing got canceled before she even had the chance to tell Jack about it, so why report news that never happened?" Case reasons.
The revelation hits Jack hard. "He's been a pretty patient guy, but he does have his limits," notes Bergman. "Jack can't do much about Nick's agenda, so he has to decide what he's going to say about Sharon's situation."
Although angry at first, Jack realizes that he has to play it cool. "He's not stupid, he understands this is complicated," notes Bergman. "He's not naive, either. He can see Nick has very strong feelings for Sharon. But we're at a point where Jack has to decide what he wants to do about that."
Jack confronts his wife and asks why she kept him out of the loop; Sharon does not try to make any excuses. "She says, 'You're right,' and he is because you should tell your spouse everything," concedes Case. "She understands where Jack is coming from."
Her admission brings Jack to a crossroads. "At first he was pissed off, then a little hurt and now he has to come to some decision on how he's going to go about this," says Bergman. "So Jack has two choices: He can get mad and walk away from his marriage or he can help Sharon get her perspective back. It's a lot more complicated than he bargained for."
Lily and Devon
Lily bids farewell to her troubled marriage and announces to her brother, Devon, that she filed for a divorce from Daniel. Once she leaves the room, he makes a shocking admission to himself: "He wonders if it's the right time to tell Lily that he's in love with her," reveals Bryton (Devon).
That's right! Devon has quietly been carrying a torch for his adoptive sister all this time. "It's something that had been buried deep down for so long and there's suddenly this moment of 'Wow! She's not going to be married anymore,' " Bryton continues. "A few years ago, Devon had a thing for Lily, so now he's trying to convince himself that there's nothing wrong with telling her that he loves her."
But Devon decides it's not the right time for true confessions. "He knows it's a difficult phase for her, so for now, he's trying to make her feel as good as she can," says Bryton. "But he's also trying to get her to see that he's a pretty good guy himself. She feels they have a brother-and-sister relationship, so it's going to be very interesting to see if he can change her mind."
For now, Devon decides to keep his real intentions under wraps. "Devon will be terribly conflicted by his feelings," Latham teases. "His actions against those feelings will actually puzzle Lily. She will have no clue why he's acting the way he is. He'll try to cover them up. This is actually going to be a long storyline."
