September 4, 2007 CBS Soaps In Depth Words To Live By It's hard to believe, but when she first slipped into the sexy stilettos of her alter ego, Jill, Y&R's Jess Walton says that she had a difficult time with the dialogue she was given to memorize. "It was a whole different format than with Kelly Harper," she says of the character she played on CAPITOL. "I had come into the middle of the storyline where Jill had hired Rex for Kay, so she had these long speeches with Rex, trying to train him. I was used to being a more reactive character when I was Kelly, instead of a proactive character, which is Jill." While memorizing lines is second nature to the showbiz vet, she admits that it took some adjusting because the role had been written for her predecessor, Brenda thingyson. "They wrote for Brenda in a certain cadence and rhythm of lines that was very foreign to me. I remember trying to get every single word exactly. I was lying in bed studying the scripts with my husband one night and I said, 'I can't do this!' " she recalls, laughing a little at her trepidation 20 years ago. "I said, 'I'm going to have no life because I will be spending hours on the dialogue!' "
