'Y&R's' Phyllis doesn't like Sharon her man
By CAROLYN HINSEY
Nick visits his wife, Phyllis, in prison next week on "The Young and the Restless" to tell her he kissed his ex-wife, Sharon.
"Phyllis is like, 'Okay, great, thanks,'" says Michelle Stafford, who plays Phyllis. "She isn't that upset over it because when he came back to town he was still in love with Sharon. He didn't know he was married to Phyllis."
That's because Nick went down in a plane crash and came back a little fuzzy on the women in his life.
"She's not mad like, 'How dare you?' but this is the beginning of her worst nightmare realized. It's like, 'Oh, God. Here I am in prison for six years and you're going to be with Sharon.'"
Phyllis uses the only weapon she has at her disposal behind bars: the telephone.
"She calls Sharon and says, 'You better get down here!'" says Stafford. "Sharon and Phyllis talk about it, and Phyllis wants to know, 'Is Sharon in love with [her husband] Jack?' At the end, Sharon says, 'Jack and I are good together. We have a good relationship. He cares for my son.' And Phyllis is like, 'You didn't say you loved him.' Sharon just looks at Phyllis like, 'Busted!'"
She's not surprised.
"Phyllis knows Sharon and Nick are still in love," says Stafford. "She knew that when they separated. It wasn't because they didn't love each other. It was because they couldn't get it together after the loss of their child. So, that's always looming for Phyllis."
Next up? Summoning Jack to the prison.
"Phyllis says, 'You'd better stop moping and get it together because I'm in here for six years. Pull out of it, dude. Stop your whining and make sure your wife is happy. Keep your marriage going.'"
Phyllis' logic is that if Jack can stay married to Sharon while she's in the clink, Nick may still be there for Phyllis when she gets out. But by the end of the week, Brad Carlton, who also loves Sharon, will call the local tabloids with proof of Nick and Sharon's kiss.
"What an a- he is," says Stafford, adding, "Phyllis has bigger fish to fry. She's in prison. She has to avoid all the slings and arrows from the tough chicks who want to kick her a-."
Including her new cell mate, Jana the serial killer.
"Phyllis is just going to agree with anything she says because she doesn't want to be killed in her sleep," says Stafford.
Indeed, you might say Phyllis will do anything to get sprung.
"There is something around the corner that will get Phyllis out - temporarily - but what price will Phyllis have to pay?" says Stafford.
The actress is ready.
"I need to get out and wear cute clothes and get my hair cut, because I can't get my hair cut while Phyllis is in prison," she says.
How about her hair color?
"What are you talking about?" quips Stafford. "Phyllis is a natural redhead!"
