January 8, 2008 Soap Opera Weekly From Glitter To Gold Y&R's Judith Chapman insists that experience is softening Gloria's gaudy look, but dont' expect the Genoa City social climber to throw out her animal prints. "I got an e-mail on my Web site saying, 'I don't know why you wear all this lipstick and big hair! You're a pretty woman. Why don't you tone it down a bit?' " Chapman shares with a laugh. "I wrote back that I understood her concern, but this was a conscious choice. I wanted Gloria to be over-the-top and nouveau riche, with big hair and lots of makeup and blue eye shadow--which she doesn't wear anymore." The more flamboyant Gloria's style, the more room for her--and her taste!--to mature. "It's called an actor's arc," Chapman explains. "Gloria will never lose her street edge, but I wanted her to become more refined with time. She finally has the money and has learned a bit." After three years, three husbands and infinite machinations, some might say wild Gloria still has a ways to go. You be the judge
