This week, Nikki learns that her hot-headed hubby has frozen all of her accounts and assets, further exasperating their stuck-in-the-middle son. "Nick is so frustrated," admits his portrayer, Joshua Morrow. "He doesn't know why his parents are unable to see this can't be good for the family. Nick thinks this is the time they should all be pulling together and helping Victoria get healthy. Instead, they're going to fight until they destroy each other."
To that end, Victor decides to countersue Nikki and discusses the imminent suit with Neil, who asks why his boss is being so harsh with his demands. Victor is irked by the question and wonders if there is anyone he can trust. "He wants to be surrounded by 'yes' men who will support him," opines Morrow. "Victor is a little paranoid now, whether he wants to admit it or not. Now he starts questioning the people who are the most loyal to him."
Neil tries to defend his stance, but Victor orders him to deliver the documents to the lawyers by the end of the day. However, before that happens, Nick comes across the papers and is stunned. "He learns that this lawsuit will literally wipe out Nikki and also take everything she owns just to fight it," explains Morrow. "Nick's whole thing all along was trying not to pick a side. Even in the Victoria situation, he was trying to play the peacemaker, but with this, it's become so nasty because his dad is attacking his mother. Victor has drawn a line in the sand."
Newman, Sr. walks in to find his son with the papers and Nick tries to reason with him. "Nick isn't necessarily saying, 'I'm with you,' to anyone," notes Morrow. "He's just trying to keep everyone calm and level-headed. He concedes that Nikki going against Victor wasn't the best thing to do in the first place, but Nick is trying to keep an open dialogue between his parents."
Victor is not amused by his son's attempt to broker a cease-fire. "Since Nick isn't jumping on the bandwagon and going, 'Let's get her!' Victor sees that as a betrayal," says Morrow. "He thinks Nick is being a traitor. As much as Nick doesn't want to choose a side, Victor is practically forcing him to."
Nick tries to diffuse the situation by imploring Victor to see the situation from Nikki's perspective. "That just seems to make Victor even more mad," chuckles Morrow. "He's beyond any rational thought at this point. He's acting like a crazy person. There's just no getting him to look past his hang-ups. Nick used to be the one person who Victor would listen to and now he's not even doing that any longer. So there's nobody left and he's certainly not going to get a lot out of Victoria right now."
Nick is so disillusioned by his dad that he utters the unthinkable. Sighs Morrow, "Nick used to be so proud of his dad, but he tells Victor that he never wants to be like him."
Victor's response? "That's breaking the proverbial last straw," winces Morrow. "He comes to this realization that Nick doesn't have his back. Victor yells, 'You're not welcome at Newman Enterprises anymore. Get out of my face! You're fired!' "
Nick is stunned by the declaration, but doesn't argue. "He basically says, 'Peace out. I'm done fighting you,' " says Morrow. "But before leaving, Nick tells Victor that he clearly wants to be alone, so that's how he's going to end up--alone. Victor says how comfortable he is with being on his own because he's lived that way for most of his life, so Nick just leaves.
And hightails it over to Nikki to warn her about the countersuit, plus mentions that, oh, yeah, he was fired for sticking up for her. "She's not that surprised that Victor is coming back at her, but once she sees the magnitude of what he's trying to do, it's bound to have some kind of effect on her," Morrow points out.
Nick, brave soul that he is, then returns to Newman Enterprises to pack up his office and encounters Victor again. Teases Morrow, "It's a very interesting scene between them."
The Young and the Furious

What do Nikki and Victor Newman have in common with Paul McCartney and Heather Mills? Yep, that's right: one he**uva messy divorce! After Nikki trysted with David, Victor fired the next volley by demanding that she pay back (at once!) the loans he made to her. This only compelled the miffed missus to file a lawsuit that her precious NVP project was sunk--literally--by his nearby drilling operation. So how much more acrimonious can this get? Let us count the ways. But this time, Nick gets caught in the crossfire.
