Wake Up, Vicki!
Y&R incorporated Amelia Heinle's maternity leave into the sudser by having her alter ego, Victoria, be injured during the Clear Springs disaster and lapse into a coma. Will Heinle follow her brief appearances last week by returning to the soap full-time? While show policy is to not comment on upcoming storyline, sources close to Heinle say that not only is she already back at work, but Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki) even gave up her dressing room to make the mother and baby more comfortable while they're at the studio! Heinle did promise to make her maternity leave a short one, so viewers will probably see Victoria's eyes fluttering open any day now.
Will Paul's Ex Stay?
Y&R confirms that Rebecca Staab will be taking over the role of Heather's mom, April. Her first air date is scheduled for Friday, January 11, but how long will Paul's ex-wife be in town?
Staab is currently slated to appear in two episodes, but could April stick around? The actress teases that there is a lot that can be explored with the character. "She's written stronger than the previous April, who was a bit of a victim. And I like the ambiguity of the fact that we don't know what's happened to her in the last 10 years. She's grown and learned that you can start over, which is the gift that she brings to her daughter. That gives the character much more potential for... a range of behaviors or personalities that have yet to be unraveled."
Indeed, April's interaction with Heather and ex Paul may set the stage for another visit in the future, possibly even stirring up trouble between the P.I. and his girlfriend, Maggie. Says Staab, "Now that they've opened a can or worms, they'll have to come back and examine where this is going."
A Second Chance?
It looks like fans of David and Nikki can breathe a sigh of relief, since their romance might not be doomed! Contrary to published reports, Vincent Irizarry's official Web site has announced that the actor recently renewed his Y&R contract for another year. Originally, the GL alum joined the soap for a three-month stint. Then in June, he extended his deal for an additional six months. This latest deal will allow David to continue wooing Nikki and annoying Victor. Y&R's policy is to not comment on actors' contracts.
