It's a week of emotional milestones for Nikki, as she holds baby Reed for the first time, then makes her split from Victor official.
"It is an unbelievable moment in her life," says Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki) of her character's scenes with Reed. "It's even more meaningful as the babies playing Reed are indeed preemies--so small and delicate. I was already crying naturally, but then during the take, the baby smiled! It couldn't have been timed more perfectly."
Nikki tries to hold onto that moment of peace as she heads to court for her divorce proceedings. "As much as she keeps saying, 'Bring it on!' she is dreading this," admits Scott. "After a marriage of such length and passion, there are silent regrets. She's wishing it could somehow all go away. Ending the agony also means ending the greatest love story of her life."
The judge gives the feuding couple a chance to make their cases. "Victor has the first say, then Nikki," recounts Scott. "They are both highly emotional and determined to receive what they feel is fair."
'Fair' to Victor means getting everything, though. "Victor is more vicious in his request," concedes Scott. "Nikki simply wants to maintain some dignity."
She gets more than that. Nikki walks away with a hefty financial settlement, while Victor's only consolation is taking ownership of her beloved company, N.V.P. "This is not like winning the lottery for her," clarifies Scott. "It's not the same mindset as an average working person. These are wealthy people. A specific sum of money is not the issue for her, though perhaps it is for David."
Ya think? After pushing Nikki for a wedding date, David meets with the mysterious man who's been hounding him for money and promises to pay up within two weeks. Then the man calls David 'Scott,' wondering if Nikki knows what Scott is into. Lucky for whatever-his-name-is, Nikki remains oblivious.
"Right now, David is the calm in the center of the storm," contends Scott. Nikki will need that support when she comes back to Sharon's and finds that a furious Victor has had all her belongings packed up and sent over from the ranch. "That is definitely a blow. To see it all sitting before her is unexpected and emotionally painful," affirms Scott.
Both she and Victor are hurting, but neither one musters the strength to reach out. "In spite of everything, a part of her heart will always belong to him," sighs Scott. "This is simply fact."
One that David isn't counting on.
