February 29, 2008 Soap Opera Digest Insider
Not surprisingly, my interview with Y&R's Amelia Heinle (Amelia) and Thad Luckinbill (J.T.) wasn't going to take place during a leisurely lunch at a trendy café. As new parents of son, Rowe (born last November), this real-life married couple have little down time. Even though I had to meet them between scenes at their dressing room, I still enjoyed our time together. But what I didn't get to include in their fun joint Q&A feature in the March 18 issue, and I'm sure fans would love to know, is that Amelia and Thad have no intention of ever leaving Y&R. "This has been the best soap I've ever been on, including the actors and the behind-the-scenes people," chirped Amelia who first played Steffi on LOVING/THE CITY, then Mia on AMC. "When I first started on soaps, I thought they were so weird and there were a lot of politics involved so I got out. When I came here, I was holding my breath but I loved it here right away. I could stay here forever and be happy." Thad was quick to second that. "A soap job is great," he enthused. "It's almost like banker's hours. I was really fortunate enough to do a lot of stuff outside of Y&R. I just did a WITHOUT A TRACE. But I always said, and some people didn't believe me, that this was my primary job. This is where I want to be. There was never a time when I said I didn't want to be here. I never wanted to leave. I just enjoyed doing things outside of the show. But now that I have a family, this is still where I want to be. If another job comes up and it works out with the show, then great. But if not, this is my first priority. I've been blessed to be able to stay on the show this long. I always say that I blue-collared my way into this role because I was only supposed to be on for five shows and look what it's turned into. It's a tribute to the fans and the way the character is written. It's been nothing but a surprise for me. It's been a great ride."
