Writers Guild Cancels Awards Show The Writers Guild of America West has shelved its Feb. 9 show unless the strike is over by then..
The writers still announced documentary and screenplay nominees earlier this week, and still plan to announcing winners on Feb. 9.
The Writers Guild of America East is still mulling over canceling its show.
Clooney Proposes Mediation Panel A-lister George Clooney has volunteered to create a mediation panel between the Alliance of Motion Picture & Television Producers and the Writers Guild of America.
The blog says Mr. Clooney would look to bring together Tom Hanks, Steven Spielberg, “ER” executive producer John Wells and other producer head honchos.
Mr. Clooney said the goal of the panel would be to urge both sides to live with the demands the other was asking for, the blog reports.
Producers Taking Questionable Tactics Against Striking Writers? A list of several underhanded tactics from studio brass and pro-Writers Guild of America staff is being compiled at Deadline Hollywood Daily.
The blog lists several questionable tactics, including ABC’s rescinding an offer to pay for Screen Actors Guild award tickets for its television executive producers, NBC’s bullying “30 Rock’s” Tracy Morgan and “The Apprentice’s” Donald Trump not to appear on “The Late Show With David Letterman” and AMPTP staff posting anti-WGA rants on pro-WGA web sites in order to drag down readership.
